Dial "T" for Torah Study PDF Print E-mail

jnet.org logo Thanks to a program created by the educational arm of the Chabad Lubavitch movement, business people, students and homemakers in Camden and Burlington counties will now have the opportunity to take some time out of their work week - whether at the office at home or even on the go - to study Torah.

The program, JNet, matches individuals with someone of similar age and background who has an expertise in Torah learning. The JNet study partner will call the student at a mutually agreed upon time each week and spend a half-hour in chavruta (partner) study on any Jewish topic.

“JNet really broadens the effect we can have in offering Jewish education to every Jew anytime, anywhere,” said Rabbi Mendel Mangel, co-director of Chabad Lubavitch of Camden and Burlington Counties.

Chabad has added this initiative to its existing offering of programs, such as Menorah lightings, Matzah baking, Hebrew School, Torah classes, Camp Gan Israel and E:Torah and TorahFax.

“This is part of our global campaign to give every Jew an opportunity to learn Torah,” said Rabbi Mangel. “At Chabad of Camden and Burlington Counties we want people already taking part in our many programs and events to be able to take it to the next level.”

With their hand-picked personal Torah trainer, students can have the freedom to learn what they want, when they want and at any pace they want.

JNet students can select from a variety of topics suggested on JNet.org or they can come up with their own study topics. Topics might be practical such as cooking kosher or talking to your children about spirituality or might be more esoteric ideas such as mysticism or tales of the Baal Shem Tov.

After a prospective student applies, they will be called for a brief phone interview to ascertain the specifics of their background, times and study topics. The time between this and finding a study partner is typically one to two weeks.

For more information on participating in a telephone chavruta call Rabbi Mendel Mangel at 856-874-1500 or visit online.
